Formentera – A beach lovers Paradise.
The beautiful Island of Formentera deserves a special mention. The island sits just across the water from the Island of Ibiza and takes about half an hour by local ferry. If sitting on a beautiful beach and swimming in clear blue seas is your idea of heaven then this is the place for you. The Island has become very popular with young Italians during the month of August and you will see why they make the journey if you hop over from Ibiza. The truly fantastic beaches are dotted all around the Island and being just 19km long makes it possible to visit a number of bays even if its just on a day’s visit.
Illetas – which is an unbelievable strip of beach with shallow warm seas and is located just around the bay from the Islands port. Here you will find a couple of beach bars/restaurants including Juan Y Andrea that sits directly on the sands, a perfect location for lunch but very high prices.
Playa Llevant – This lovely stretch of beach is just across the narrow strip of land from Illetas beach. Much quieter with soft powder white sand. The coast this side can get the full force of any winds that are blowing, so please take care as this can create high waves and strong currents at times. A good quality beach restaurant with sunbeds to the front is also available. Along the beach away from the restaurant is also popular with nudists.
Mitjon or Arenal on the east side of the Island are also worth considering, soft powder sand and the restaurants here are more realistic with there pricing. Some parts of this area popular with nude bathing.
Cala Sahona – This beautiful beach on the north west side of the Island offers clear seas with very safe bathing. Popular with families and offering a number of beach bar/restaurants. To the back of the beach sits the Hotel Cala Sahona with lovely views over this delightful bay.
Es Pujols – This is the only holiday resort on the Island. Many people seem to think that it has spoilt the area, however it offers a lovely beach and still has a chilled out atmosphere. Every evening hippy stalls line the promenade which just adds to the resorts charm. A number of good quality restaurants are mixed in with the regular tourist style places. Good selection of shops, bars and cafes.
Es Calo – Situated on the east cost, this area has a small amount of holiday accommodation with a few shops, a supermarket and a number of restaurants offering good quality food. The sea here is unbelievably clear aquamarine with a couple of small sandy inlets. Great for swimming and snorkelling.
This whole Island is a beach lovers paradise.
